Folk culture

Post by John »

Here's my favorite video of Ukrainian Cossack dance. I've always loved the folk culture of this region of the world, and to have Betsy living and serving there is the fulfillment of one of my dearest dreams. The exuberance of the music and dance just sends me.
Enjoy.

A Cappella singing at its best:

I'm crazy for the art of Ilya Repin.
And then there's:

I think the eastern Europeans do choral singing as well as it can be done.
The bass soloist here takes my breath away.

I had to post this incredible choir of what sounds like a hundred men, until you see there are only SIX OF THEM. And the gangly kid in the front seems rather lost and uncomfortable ....... until he opens his mouth.

The piece is by Chesnokov, who has become one of my beloved composers.
