The Entity is the enigmatic individual who leads the team of superheroes both in battle and in their individual efforts. Though always under the guidance and authority of Mom-Lady, she takes the role of team leader in combat. And in this amazing team of inconceivable power, the lonely Entity has truly found her place.
No one, including the Entity herself, knows for certain her age nor her origins. Indeed, only oddments of her troubled past have been revealed, and those only with the aid of the team. Her earliest known memory is of a farmhouse in the country, an image which resurfaced in a dream she had after she joined the Inconceivables. In the dream, she at first remembered little more than fighting and yelling. She then vividly recalls seeing her Father fall back in pain and seeing the stranger who attacked him laughing. At that moment, she screamed “I want you dead!” to the man. At her command, his face immediately contorted in pain, and within moments, his screams died out as he made his final gasps for air. Her father then turned to her, bewildered and horrified. As the attacker lay there on the hard dirt lane - suddenly very still - the girl stepped back. She knew beyond a doubt that she had killed the attacker. Her father knew it too. So she ran.
Little else is known about what happened between that moment and the time she was found by a traveling gang of carnies. During her solitude, she found she could heal herself by thought, and whenever she felt hunger, she could manage to summon food to herself at will. She does admit that she spent many months living inside the library of a large city. There, she was able to use her powers of energy projection and mind control to avoid detection. She read everything she could, and in time, she stopped speaking all together. Unfortunately, one night while she was engrossed in a study of kinetic progression in psyche interpretation, she was discovered by library security. She was kicked out into the frozen night. She then went into a desperate psychic survival mode, shutting down her mind, her recall and her emotions.
It was at this time that the motley group of carnival performers found her nearly frozen in the snow and nursed her back to health. Try as they might, they could not get her to speak. Never knowing her name, they simply called her “that girl” until the ringleader jokingly referred to her as “The Entity” of the show, a name whose irony made it endearing to the other carnies. No one knew who she was, nor could they understand her, but as time went on, they found that whatever facet of the production they gave her to do, she could do it. Any trick, any stunt, any feat - the mysterious child could do it all without even a practice. The moniker stuck and “The Entity” began to perform live. Some time later, she was on the trapeze during a sold-out show in California. She was performing a daring act which had her bounding in the air to the astonishment of the elated crowd, but she knew the moment her hands left the bar that she would not catch the other swing in time. Over 60 feet up in the air and just about to fall, her mind psychically reacted and she willed the swing to change direction and fly into her hands. As the crowd had gasped in amazement, she had rediscovered her latent powers and abilities.
Immediately following the show, her fellow carnies questioned her about what they had just witnessed - her feat had amazed them to the point that they were confused and troubled. The Entity then shocked them further with her first spoken words: “I need someone who can explain this to me.” At that moment, Mom-Lady - the Marvelous Mother of Might - rounded the corner and came to meet the Entity. They walked out the door together, Mom-Lady telling of a group of people with similarly amazing powers. The Entity never looked back. Though she was still a mystery even to herself, her strength and determination had returned and she had a new desire to use and master her powers. Upon her arrival at the Secret Kitchen, the Entity opened the genealogy of superheroes which a man named Marvel had compiled, and she knew that the world needed such a team again to fight the forces of evil both in this world and in the worlds to come. She and the other founding members began the arduous task of assembling a team of superheroes which would be destined to help mankind in all of its greatest struggles.
In time, the Entity learned to summon objects and even people to herself through her mind; she learned to use her body to enhance her mind’s powers and she even learned to control events through her desires. However, her troubled past makes it difficult for her to clear her thoughts and know exactly what she is capable of. As a result, her powers are not fully identified, nor can they be fully controlled in the battle between her will and her thoughts, but she is known to be hyper-intelligent, and to possess dominion over various forms of energy. In combat situations, the Entity can focus on multiple obstacles at a time, but extreme and constant overload causes her mind to shut down, making her somewhat unstable in the most tense situations. Nonetheless, her excessive intelligence allows her to control not only the people and objects around her, but her own body as well. She has learned the art of regeneration through the use of her unusual healing ability; this is one reason it is impossible to know her true age. The Entity’s biggest challenge is learning to control her thoughts, for her powers allow her to fulfill her every desire, whether for good or ill. She must constantly harbor the pain of getting close to people, for her powers ever threaten to manipulate those she loves into acting only according to her desires, and not according to their own hearts.
As the team combat leader, when the Entity wants to assemble the team, she merely has to “want” them all to a location and her mind is able to corporally project them there almost instantly. At times this tactic has lead to fierce arguments and privacy issues within the team itself as the other Inconceivables rarely have the ability to deny this pulling force, and have often been caught up in other battles or important events at the time of their summoning. Much to the chagrin of her teammates, the Entity has even interrupted romantic dates and important conversations when she felt the need to assemble the team. Under the guidance of Mom-Lady, she is trying to develop a new method which would allow the other Inconceivables to deny the call if they are dealing with more pressing matters. Though in many ways hopelessly flawed, the Entity nevertheless always has the team’s best interests at heart, and is a tireless protector of her friends and the people she serves.
As she has attempted to gain greater access to the memories of her past, she has seen visions of the harm she could cause through her uncontrolled desires and powers. But since she has found her purpose with the Inconceivables, the Entity has also been able to witness the help she is able to give to the world she now loves. For many years, the Entity has been the cloak behind which she hid, always trying to discover the sparse shreds from her past. Now, however, the Entity has embraced her new role as her true identity and real self, ever working to better the world with the team she has come to know as her one, true family.
