I have had a chance to read some of Oliver B. Huntington's journal while Mom and Dad were here and found it very interesting. Can we arrange for me to get some copies somehow, if it is not too inconvenient?

his journal takes up many volumes, i think the whole thing can fill an entire shelf. dad and i have talked about putting it all together and creating an index, as a big family project. i believe a transcribed version is available at byu, at least some of it is online.

That's great. I'll look online for some sources. Let us know how we can help with creating an index.

we talked a little about this, and on second thought, it might not make sense to create an index. we should be able to find or create a searchable electronic version. we could also print hard copies somehow. as far as i know all of the volumes haven't been published together, and i'm still not sure how much has been transcribed.

i found more images of oliver boardman huntington's journal at the byu library website. i'm not sure yet whether this gives us all of the volumes. this is the third "collection" i've found. i already posted links to the missionary diaries and overland trails diaries collections, above. links to the oliver boardman huntington papers collection are below. putting the three collections together, i think we have 19 "books" or "volumes" so far.

Ian, this is remarkable and thank you. I love how under description his writings have been typed to better understand his journal. What an incredible example to us of journal keeping.

this is great news, according to this article, we can now get free subscriptions to americanancestors.org. this is the website for the new england historic genealogical society. last year i was thinking about buying some of their publications relating to our mayflower ancestors, but now we can just get it for free!

i signed up, but the subscription doesn't include the new england historical and genealogical register. you have to pay extra for that. annoying!

That is annoying. How much do you have to pay for that?

looks like the cheapest option is about $100 annually.
