How Much Should You Give Away?

"the offensive word has been changed to "darn" by the newly-updated filter. i think we're all ok w/ references to satan's realm, when used in that context. (although i kind of like saying "satan's realm," it sounds kind of cool, in a weird way... but don't read into that.......

Zeal [looking over shoulder to see whom John may be looking at/talking to] to outfox Satan? Wow, I feel like I'm on a runaway train here. It seems that with every phrase I speak, an attitude, motive, quality, characteristic.... is ascribed to me that I don't recognize. I thought y'all knew me well e...

How Much Should You Give Away?

To help me in my effort not to use alienating language, could you be a little more specific? Have the offending words already been altered/excised? Oh wait--did you mean the reference to Satan's realm in Alex's post? If so, I understand the objection to the use of that word as an expletive, but woul...

How Much Should You Give Away?

"like it or not, we're all just a bunch of rich americans."

You're right, and I like it--it's one of the blessings for which I am the very most thankful.

"in my mind the question is this: should i simply follow the counsel of the brethren, or should i try to outfox satan's minions?" But surely outfoxing Satan and his minions is to follow the counsel of the brethren. "do we derive more satisfaction from outfoxing satan, or from trying t...

"conan o'brien? let's stick to r rated movies here... we can talk about television viewing in another thread if you want (backhanded jabs are generally discouraged)." You know, Ian, the Conan O'Brien thing didn't sound backhanded at all to me, but rather quite straightforward. It was a lit...

If Satan’s minions heavily salted our water, and the general authorities had told us not to drink salt water, would we be disobeying the general authorities if we drank the water after removing the salt from it? “Once an R-rated movie, always an R-rated movie” is an assertion that I can’t make any m...

How about the prophet Mohammed? How many names do you want? I know there are some Arabic mathematicians who did important work; that would be kinda cool. There's a whole bunch of them named in this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arabic_mathematics

The moment you been waiting for!

Oh I want all those recipes mentioned! And I'm especially eager at present for the Hazelnut Cake and for Gretchen's Apple torte. Or is that tort? Which one is the legal term? Because that tort is definitely sinful. Which isn't to say it's a crime. Hey, does anyone want instructions for Grandma Grace...

Omar Khayyam

In the case of Omar Khayyam, it is most likely that his poetry (which even in Persia had been largely forgotten) would entirely have been lost except for his tireless and passionate champion Edward J. Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald's 19th C. translation introduced Khayyam's poetry to the English-speaking wo...

Re: How did you do it?

"I want to know how you all became such good students.... I know it wasn't luck." As somewhat of an "outsider" allow me to say that I too know it wasn't luck. It was largely the help, support, and nurturing of terrific parents. All you "kids" have good hearts, fine mind...

Hot Topic: Sharing Music...is it Wrong?

"Dad's Cd was copied by many people( without his permission or without paying him) and frankly dad found it flattering." That is a good attitude for John to have as the "labourer", who is nevertheless "worthy of his hire". Aren't the questions raised in this discussion,...
