As far as Granger goes, I'm impressed, he gave quite the illusion of an orchestra.

That second one was delightful. It only took the first three to five notes to get me going. I listened to their rendition of Tchaikovsky's first piano concerto. Took my breath away.

Just heard David Shifrin playing the Weber clarinet concerto on KUSC. brilliant. It compelled me to go to youTube and listen to him more. I found this and was stunned by the brilliant, sensitive playing from these five. Chalk one up for the old guys. Bryn, am I justified in thinking that Shifrin is extraordinary?

Be sure to go to youtube and listen to the rest of the quintet. Glorious music.

David Shifrin is on of the most sought after clarinetists around. I have had a chance to hear him live and meet him. He is a nice guy. Also, I always enjoy it when composers explain their craft.

I've been wondering for a long time what the guitar piece is that is so often played on KUSC - I don't know if it is a personal favorite of Jim Svejda (sp?) or what...but if anyone was wondering like me, here it is:

I love that piece of music, and when I hear it I always think of you Betsy since you liked that music since you were a child.

i often think "svejda, you are a pompous, pompous man," but then i think "what would our lives be like, without svejda and his keen insights?" then i again think "svejda, you are a pompous, pompous man."
so let it be written... so let it be done.

Oh, Svejda. What a puzzle of refinement and ego you are.
