I have been trying to find out if this author is still alive. Lipman wrote and illustrated among other books the book I read The Chatterlings in Wordland (1928) - Great gift from dad on mother's day. So this king will have a prince keep his crown if he can think of two words that mean the same thing. So the young prince tries with words like;
spurned and rejected
scuffle and wrestle
delicious and savory
acquiesce and agree
huge and vast
tired and exhausted
chore and task

.....and many other words eventually he comes with two words that mean the same thing ( I will tell you if you ask me). This is a great book. I want to get more books from this author. His illustrations are charming.
